Over 650 delegates hail successes and address obstacles at Community Power 2010 Energy Minister Brad Duguid had nothing but praise for delegates at the recent Community Power Conference host by OSEA. Calling upon the more than 650 attendees, to give themselves a sound round of applause, Duguid spoke with both pride and surprise at the overwhelming response to opportunities under the Green Energy Act for communities to generate green, clean electricity. Thousands of individuals and community groups have applied for feed-in tariff contracts, beyond all expectations, he said, noting too the number of jobs being created as a result of the legislation. 2010 Community Power Award winners announced The OSEA 2010 Community Power Awards were presented during the Community Power Awards Banquet & Ceremony at the conference. The award winners are individuals who have made significant contributions to the Community Power movement in Ontario and globally. |

This year Ontario marks 100 years of Community Power: electricity owned and operated by the people of the province. A century ago, in a ceremony in what was then the city of Berlin and is now Kitchener, Sir Adam Beck, the founder of Ontario Hydro, flipped the switch enabling electricity generated at Niagara Falls to be sent along public-owned transmission lines to municipal utilities in over a dozen communities, including Toronto.
In the spirit of Sir Adam’s slogan, “Power to the People” is the theme of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association’s 2nd Annual Community Power Conference.
