Tour A: Walking Tour, Green Energy Tour of the Exhibition Place
Join the Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative on a green energy tour of the City of Toronto’s Exhibition Place! With innovative renewable energy projects such as North America’s first urban wind turbine and the second-largest solar photovoltaic array in Canada, as well as a comprehensive energy conservation and waste-reduction strategy, the Exhibition Place is a showcase of sustainability. This guided tour includes information and access to the Toronto Hydro / Windshare wind turbine, Horse Palace PV array, Press Building Geothermal facility, Direct Energy Trigeneration system, and the Hydrogen Village fuelling station as well as information about the Ex’s programs such as lighting upgrades, energy conservation and their energy self-sufficiency strategy.
- This tour is a walking tour - please come prepared to be outside in the cold at night!
Tour B: Virtual Tour, Solar Neighbourhood Tour – Danforth / Riverdale
The Riverdale Neighbourhood has a long history of installing solar systems from the CMHC Healthy House in the 1990s to the very successful Riverdale Initiative for Solar Energy (RISE) in 2006. This virtual tour will explore a mix of residential and commercial solar PV and solar hot water applications and some of the background that has made this neighbourhood a “solar hotbed”.
- Due to time of day and travel time restrictions, this tour will now be offered as a "virtual tour" - with photos, commentary and quotes from home and business owners.
